  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 4:10 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting. After review of the minutes of the last meeting, a motion to approve was made by Pashaura Singh, seconded by Gurdev Singh, and were unanimously approved.
  7. Announcements: A letter has been sent to Gurdwara Ravidas and they have expressed interest in attending one of SCCC’s meetings.
  8. Punjabi Language Promotion - The California Department of Education has a documentary called Meet the Sikhs. It is available for purchase and can be donated to schools for their use in classrooms.
  9. Sikh Youth - the youth have begun working with United Sikhs more closely than before. They plan to continue holding youth workshops at local Gurdwaras. Friday Youth Keertan Darbar will begin again next month and continue monthly at 8:00 to 10:00 PM on the first Friday of each month. Vismad Productions has produced another movie called Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh. They plan to have a showing in a local theater.
  10. Interfaith Alliance - SCCC has received a letter of thanks from Interfaith Alliance for taking part in the Interfaith Alliance since it started in 1998. They have sent $2000 to SCCC for providing the brunch at the July 4th Picnic. Members all agreed that this should be donated to the county food bank.
  11. Multifaith Exchange – the orientation meeting will be at the Unitarian Church on Sept. 20th.
  12. SCCC Crematorium - so far the committee reports that in this area an estimated 12 to 13 cremations per month are for Sikhs. For it to be viable the crematorium should be open to people of all faiths. Onkar Singh reported by E-mail that Singh Sabha Gurdwara is willing to work with SCCC on building a crematorium on the property they have set aside. They have already received approval on from the city. A meeting will be set up with them.
  13. Guru Nanak Prakash Devas - After some discussion it was decided that this year’s program will be held at Gurdwara Anandgahr Sahib in Kerman. The date is set for Nov. 8th. There was some discussion on the details of the program. Blankets for the blanket drive should be collected by the individual Gurdwaras. These will be brought to the program then taken to Poverello House.
  14. Sikh Coalition
    1. Sikhs in the US Army - 41 congressmen have signed a letter to Secretary Gates in support of the two young Sikhs in the Army.
    2. Kirpan Education Bill AB 504 - The bill will go before the entire State Senate for vote on Mon. Aug. 31. All are asked to E-mail or call our Representative, Jeff Denham immediately
  15. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM on a motion made by Pashaura Singh and seconded by Jasdeep Singh. The next meeting will be on Sep. 26, 2009, 4:00 PM at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Prakash.
