  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting.
  7. Harsa Singh, SCCC member from Pinedale, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last month. A moment of silence and Naam Simran was observed in his honor.
  8. Multifaith Exchange – The last meeting was on Judaism. The Sikh community was represented by Iqbal Singh, and Kehar Singh.
  9. Interfaith Alliance - to commemorate MLK day an all-faith prayer meeting was held at the Second Baptists Church on Jan. 17th, 2009. Keertan Shabad was performed by Kirtani Jatha from the Sikh community.
  10. United Sikhs - A special meeting of the SCCC was held on Jan 10. United Sikhs officers came and reported on the status of the Right to Turban case in France. They provided a video documentary about it. Jasdeep Singh made copies of this video which are were distributed to members at today‘s meeting. These will be shown at the Gurdwaras with the goal of collecting $1000 from each Gurdwara to help defray the $150,000 debt that United Sikhs has incurred thus far fighting for the Right to Turban. There was a suggestion that we contact AGPC to aid in the fundraising efforts. United Sikhs also reported that the first Sikh Civil Rights conference was a great success. They intend to make it an annual event and would like input and representation from SCCC. United Sikhs published a report on Civil Rights in all the major countries of the world of which they provided a copy to us.
  11. Punjab News and Views - this is a new radio program hosted by Mohindar S. Poonia and Pashaura S. Dhillon. It is intended to educate Sikhs on events in India, the US, California, and locally. Discussion is held on editorial articles which have appeared in various newspapers along with proposed solutions. The program airs at 3 - 4 PM on AM 900.
  12. Punjabi Language Promotion - Live Oak High School has a newly instituted Punjabi course. Members of the Sikh community were able to write a petition, have it signed by many people, and submit it to the school district. It was decided by general consensus that SCCC should do the same here starting with Central Unified. It would also be helpful if members attended school board meetings. At the university level SCCC will again approach the students at CSUF and ask them to write the dean.
