  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 4:15 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting. After review of the minutes of the last meeting, a motion to approve was made by Bharpur Singh, seconded by Jasdeep Singh, and were unanimously approved.
  7. Financial Statement - Copies of the SCCC financial statement were circulated to members present.
  8. Interfaith Alliance - SCCC has received a letter of thanks from Interfaith Alliance for providing the Brunch at the July 4th Picnic. SCCC thanks Lachhman Singh for making the arrangements for food and Bhangra group. There was and Interfaith prayer meeting held on July 23rd where the Sikh community was represented by Mohinder S. Grewal and Amrik Singh..
  9. Multifaith Exchange – nothing new, the orientation meeting will take place on Sept. 20th.
  10. SCCC Crematorium - Boota Singh reports that there is a 1.5 acre property avialable for $500,000 which would be suitable for a crematorium. It is located on freeway 99 and Clovis Ave. After some discussion it was decided that a feasibility study should be done. A committee was set up to do this. The following members were appointed to the committee: Boota Singh, Gurdev Singh, Hardev Singh, Amrik Singh, and Ranjit Singh.
  11. United Sikhs - Fund raising is under way for Pakistan’s internally displaced people. Specifically for about 30 families who’s homes were looted or destroyed during the military operations against the Taliban. These families are presently at the Panja Sahib Gurdwara. United Sikhs will provide assistance to these families and set up a clinic for them at Panja Sahib. They are requesting volunteers also to go and help.
  12. United Sikhs Right to Turban case in France - the European Union court has rejected the United Sikhs legal arguments to allow Sikhs to wear turbans. United Sikhs intends to appeal to the UN court. Caruthers Gurdwara has given the $1000 that was pledged.
  13. Sikh Youth - A youth seminar was held recently in Turlock. Sikh youth also had a feed the hungry day in outside Poverello House in Fresno where they served lunch to the needy.
  14. Guru Nanak Prakash Devas - Dr. Onkar S. Bindra is willing be a speaker but he will not speak on a religious topic. He is willing to speak on his efforts to educate Americans on Sikhs and Sikhism. There was some discussion as to when and where this event should be held. A committee, headed by Pashaura Singh, was appointed to work on the event. The members are Jasdeep Singh, Mohinder S. Grewal, Bharpur Singh, Manvinder Singh, Mohindar S. Poonia, and Amrik Singh. Someone from Jakara will be asked to be on the committee.
  15. Kirpan in Fresno Superior Court - Onkar Singh reported that the exact cost of the lock boxes is $3206.56 installed. This will be conveyed to the sangat.
  16. Kirpan Education Bill AB 504 - passed the Senate Public Safety Committee with a unanimous vote. The bill will now make its way to the Appropriations Committee before a final vote by the entire CA State Senate in the Fall
  17. Miscellaneous - A) Organizers of Gurdwara Ravidas will meet today to decide the fate of the Guru Granth Sahib at their Gurdwara. This will be the topic of discussion on Punjab News and Views radio program. B) Singh Sabha Canada will be visiting Fresno on Aug. 21-23. For details go to
  18. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 PM on a motion made by Onkar Singh and seconded by Amrik Singh. The next meeting will be on Aug. 29, 2009, 4:00 PM at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Prakash.
