  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 4:11 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting. After review of the minutes of the last meeting, a motion to approve was made by Pashaura Singh, seconded by Onkar Singh, and were unanimously approved.
  7. Kirpan in Fresno Superior Court - Onkar Singh met with courthouse officials and was shown the locations where the lock boxes for the Kirpans will be installed. The Sikh community will need to provide the funds for this. Community members will be consulted on what size these boxes should be and how many we need. The cost of the boxes will also be presented at the next meeting.
  8. Kirpan Education Bill AB 504 - This bill was passed by the Assembly Appropriations Committee. It will next go to the State Assembly floor next week for a vote by all the Assembly members. It was decided that SCCC members should go in groups to visit our local Assembly members for their support of this bill.
  9. Multifaith Exchange The Steering Committee will meet on June 7th to discuss how to keep the Multifaith Exchange going.
  10. Interfaith Alliance - the annual July 4th Picnic is being planned. The organizers are asking if SCCC can provide food for the lunch for approximately 300 people. Lachhman Singh has volunteered to make the arrangements. Gurdwaras are asked to contribute financially.
  11. Sikhs in California History-Social Science Curriculum - Pashuara Singh reported the California Dept. of Education has agreed to put Sikh history in the 7th and 8th grade curriculum. An initial draft of what will be put into the curriculum guidelines will be presented on June 4th.
  12. United Sikhs Right to Turban case in France - funds need to be collected from those Gurdwaras that have not contributed. Also those Gurdwaras that have not shown the DVD are encouraged to do so and solicit funds from the sangat
  13. Food in Prisons - Paul Singh met with prison officials and they have agreed to provide Vegetarian food for Sikhs who request it. SCCC thanks Paul Singh for this accomplishment.
  14. Punjabi Language Promotion - SCCC members collected many signatures at the Vaisakhi Mela. Central Unified School district will be contacted to see if they will start Punjabi classes.
  15. Miscellaneous - IIGS has published a book called Dear Takuya about a young Sikh boy telling a pen-pal about himself. Ranjit Singh offered to purchase several of these books and donate them to Libraries and Gurdwaras.
  16. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 PM on a motion made by Pashaura Singh and seconded by Jasdeep Singh. The next meeting will be on June 27, 2009, 4:00 PM at Gurdwara Nanak Sar on Cherry Ave. in Fresno.
