  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 4:15 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting. After review of the minutes of the last meeting the following correction is made: par 11, line 3 should read “Gurpreet S. Mann, Secretary of Singh Sabha“. A motion to approve was by Pashaura Singh, a second by Gurdev Singh and the minutes were approved by all with the above correction.
  7. Guru Nanak Prakash Devas review-
    1. There was a suggestion that SCCC should publish a souvenir of the event in booklet form. It will contain written text of the presentations and a copy of the DVD. Everyone approved of this plan. Pashaura Singh will investigate getting it done and the cost to be presented at the next meeting. The cost of reproducing the DVD will also be presented.
    2. Approximately 125 blankets were collected and given to Poverello House.
    3. It was suggested that certificates of appreciation should be sent to those who helped make the event a success: after some discussion it was decided to send them to the following people: 1) Shane Punjab, 2) Gurdwara Anandgahr Management Committee, 3) Singapore Video, and 4) Mogha Video for their seva in prior events. The family that provided the langar for the event will be honored with a Siropa.
    4. There were some comments that the topics at the program deviated too much from the main topic of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. After some discussion it was decided that in future we should have one speaker who’s main topic is Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the other speakers will be asked to relate their topic to the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
    5. There was a suggestion that the resolution that was passed at the program regarding the California Dept of Education Curriculum Framework Revisions should be further discussed so that SCCC can have more input into the curriculum. This will take some time and will be discussed at the next meeting. It was also suggested that we should find out who the writers and researchers are for the Curriculum Committee.
    6. The itemized expenses were detailed by the Treasurer. The total cost of the program was $1238.50. There were suggestions that in future we should find sponsors for the program and for the souvenir. All were in favor of this.
    7. There was coverage by the Punjabi media and Channel 26 Fox News.
  8. Fundraising Committee - none of the Gurdwara management committees have discussed the $200 a year membership fee. There was a suggestion that it should be $100 per month. There again the representatives should discuss this with their respective management committees and get approval for one or the other.
  9. Interfaith Alliance - The Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer service will be held on Nov. 25th 7:00 PM at the College Community Congregational Church at 5515 N. Fresno St. Kirtani Jatha from Gurdwara Anandgarh Sahib will perform a Shabad. The Shabad and its English translation will be distributed to the audience. Manvindar Singh voiced an objection to distributing it to audience as most people would not show the Shabad proper reverence. Other members were all in favor of distributing it as planned.
  10. Multifaith Exchange – the next meeting will be on Christianity.
  11. Youth Committee:
    1. The youth will hold a Youth Camp Dec. 24th to 26th at the Caruthers Gurdwara.
    2. The Friday Youth Kirtan is held every first Friday of every month at Guru Nanak Prakash Gurdwara.
    3. United Sikhs is planning a feed the hungry day on Dec. 18th or 19th at Poverello House. The cost will be about $400. Donations are requested.
    4. United Sikhs is planning a Feed the Hungry day sometime in Nov.SCCC
  12. Crematorium - Singh Sabha Gurdwara has informed the Crematorium Committee that they do not have written plans for a crematorium. There was a suggestion that SCCC should proceed with this project at the building that is near Fowler on Freeway 99. There were no objections to this suggestion. There was motion from Gurdev Singh that SCCC should proceed with the Crematorium project at the stated location. Pashaura Singh made a second to the motion. It was passed unanimously. The Crematorium Committee will meet next week to develop a plan of action. Hardev Singh volunteered to convene the meeting.
  13. Miscellaneous -
    1. Diabetes research - Boota Singh announced that blood will be drawn from individuals of Punjabi decent for a research project on diabetes. Those people interested in participating should show up at the Guru Nanak Prakash Gurdwara on Dec. 5th or 6th, 7 to 11 AM. This should be announced at the Gurdwaras and the flyer should be posted.
    2. Blood drive - there will be a blood drive at Guru Nanak Prakash Gurdwara on Dec. 27.
  14. Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 PM on a motion made by Amrik Singh and seconded by Raghbir Singh. The next meeting will be on Dec. 19, 2009, 2:00 PM at Gurdwara Kalgidhar.
